The U.S. Maritime Institute has developed a training program for the recreational and private boat owner.  Currently, the following courses are available through distance learning or private instruction.  Please contact us for more information and the next course's date.

Safe Boating Course:  This in-depth, beginner boating class will give you the knowledge needed to safely operate your yacht or boat.  Topics covered include:  Boating Basics, Maritime Laws, Safety Equipment, Maneuvering, Navigation, Troubleshooting, and Trailering and Storage. Many boat insurance companies will offer discounts to those who successfully complete this course.

Basic Navigation:  This comprehensive course provides the boater with the knowledge to safety pilot a boat or yacht.  Topics covered include:  Coastal Navigation, Compass Use, Nautical Chart, Navigation Tools, Piloting, Tides, Currents, Electronic Navigation, and Voyage Planning.  This course provides an intensive overview for the beginner or a thorough review for the experienced sailor.

Advanced Navigation:  This course reinforces the lessons learned in Basic Navigation and expands into more complex topics such as:  Ocean Navigation, Radar and GPS, Sextants, and Celestial Navigation.

Skipper's Ticket™:  Our unique, private, 16-lesson course takes place at your choice of location and integrates the Safe Boating Course and Basic Navigation Course for your actual boat.
